The rain today has ushered in some cooler weather again. As soon as it gets cold my husband starts asking for meatloaf, mashed potatoes and English peas so that is what I made for dinner tonight. I have a home made apple crisp and Nespresso ready for dessert. That's what I crave when the weather gets cold. Who wants to come over and join us?

Insurance?
Who here understands life insurance? My best friend is starting a new business and has been told that she needs to take out a term life insurance policy on herself. She asked me if I knew anything about cheap term life insurance. The answer is a big no. She is hoping it is not going to be a big expense, every penny counts at this point. She is putting everything into the business.
Fateful Trip
I just got an IM my sister in law, Patti, and it seems that she is having an exciting trip to Dallas. She is there to visit her sister and do some shopping. It seems the traffic got the better of them and they wound up in a traffic accident. Everyone is OK except for a chipped tooth for her sister. Patti was on her blackberry while she waited for her sister at the Plano dentist. I guess her sister is going to have a new smile.
Poor Babies
My poor dogs are standing in the den with their legs crossed. It is raining so hard that they refuse to walk out the door. I guess I'm glad people don't use outhouses any more or I would be in the same position. For their sakes I hope the rain lets up soon!
Whatever Happened?
Whatever happened to just a car? You know, a basic car with tires and a steering wheel and a radio without all the bells and whistles they come with now. We are looking at new cars and all of the options are confusing. What do I know about projector headlights? Or backup aids? All I want is a car that will drive and get me where I want to go without problems. I guess I'm not what you would call mechanically inclined. :)

The Holidays Must Be Close
I can tell that the holiday season is fast approaching by the frenzy on the shopping networks on television. I don't usually watch them but lately they have been attracting my attention as I flip through the channels. They are frantically selling anything from the best eye cream to cookware to computers. Actually, some of that cookware has been looking pretty good to me.
It Sounded Good
I have been digging through my stack of recipes that I never tried. I decided to try a coconut pie recipe tonight. Let's just say it was a mistake. My husband and I both like coconut but there was nothing appealing about this pie. Needless to say, that one went in the trash.
Aging Me
I know that my parents raised me and I owe them everything, but they are aging me! They are getting to the point where they need to move out of their house and they are putting up a lot of resistance. Before this fight is over I am going to need more than some good wrinkle creams to erase the lines! I may need a good plastic surgeon when this episode is over with.

Television Overload
I may be on television overload after spending the weekend inside. I am beginning to buy into all of the commercials I have been watching. Right now I think I need a new vacuum cleaner, identity theft protection, a Quizno's sub and a new car. After the games come on this afternoon I am sure I will be convinced that I need to go buy some beer.
Twitter Withdrawal
I am in Twitter withdrawal this morning. Haven't been able to sign in since I got up. You know you're a twitter addict when the first thing you do in the morning is sign in to see what everyone is talking about and check in with your friends. It's been almost three hours without a tweet, I may need counseling soon if it doesn't come back up.
Soup's On
It has been a totally lazy weekend at my house. We have huddled indoors avoiding the cold and staying warm. We pulled the sweatpants off the treadmills and have been wearing them continuously. Treadmills make good clothes hangers, don't they? LOL
The weather has put me in the mood for soup so I have a pot of vegetable beef soup simmering. It's one of those recipes where I look for whatever is around the house and throw it in. I always start with a couple of pounds of beef. It can be stew beef, or a cut up roast that I bought on sale and stashed in the freezer. From there the other basic requirements are canned tomatoes, onion and celery. This time it also has carrots, cabbage, butter peas, corn, green beans and rigatoni noodles.
Who's hungry?

Could I Get Away With It?
First, my husband is out of town. Second, I have been indulging myself and spent the morning looking at furniture. Now that you know those two things, here's the question. Do you think I could get away with redoing the house with modern furniture while he's away? Think he would notice the change? I guess you're right, he would probably notice. But it was a nice fantasy...

I'm Back
I have been remiss in posting here for the past month. We had a family emergency and I was in and out of town. Things have settled down and are back to normal. I am ready to get back to cooking!
