Things Have Changed

I used to work in a restaurant for a while when I was in college. It was a small, family run place. I waited tables as well as helping in the kitchen when it was needed. Everything was very low tech, we wrote tickets for orders. Even the register wasn't computerized.

I just ran across a website that opened my eyes as to what a POS system can be these days. They sell point of sale systems for both retail and restaurant uses. The restaurant ones caught my eye. I've noticed the POS terminals that wait staff use now, but it goes further than that. They have cool littlel units that notify them when orders are ready. The most amazing part was a system that works with the customers' wifi enabled devices. The customer can use it to order, pay and page their server!
